What I value most about Duke-NUS Medical School is its inclusive and collaborative culture.

As a woman scientist from Mexico, I have felt genuinely welcomed and supported. Being part of a diverse and driven team creates an environment where impactful work thrives. I have had the opportunity to lead international research, including the global IMPACT cardio-protection study, and to mentor PhD students, one of whom is now pursuing a postdoctoral role in the UK.

These experiences have shaped my growth as a scientist and made my time at Duke-NUS Medical School deeply meaningful.

Duke-NUS Medical School fosters a collaborative, nurturing and supportive culture. Since joining the School in 2023, I have received strong support from my supervisors and colleagues whenever I expressed a desire to further upskill myself. I am also extremely grateful to my team and supervisors for their constant reminders to strike a balance between work and family time, which is important to me as a father to two lovely children.

In my time with Duke-NUS Medical School, I had the privilege of leading a key initiative which resulted in the finalisation of several key contractual templates between SingHealth, Duke University and Duke-NUS Medical School. I am extremely proud to have been involved in this initiative, as these templates helped expedite the contract reviewing process, and enhanced the working relationship between the three institutions.

The past 13 years working at Duke-NUS Medical School has been an incredibly rewarding journey. I’m surrounded by warm, dependable colleagues who genuinely support one another, creating a collaborative and caring environment. There are ample opportunities for professional and personal growth, and I’ve found great fulfilment working closely with students and watching them grow into future ‘Clinician-Plus’ doctors.

A major highlight of my journey here was being nominated by students for the Staff Recognition Award at the NUS Achievement Awards 2023, which was an incredibly humbling and meaningful experience that affirmed the impact of our shared efforts in student development.
